MLRC’s First Communications Intern, Arunima Bhattacharjee, shares insights from their time with MLRC

I consider myself to be lucky that I got an opportunity to work with MLRC as a Communications Intern for a period of 10 weeks. As someone with a former background in law who opted for a Political Communications degree with a view of exploring opportunities in the Communications sector, this was a perfect environment for me to experience the transition in a professional set up.

Being a Communications Intern, I was mainly reporting to the Communications and Fundraising Lead during my internship. However, I got a few opportunities to work with the solicitors as well. I am very appreciative of the fact that the staff members made sure that I had always had work to keep me engaged, showing their professionalism and consideration for the interns who get placed at the organization. I was so pleased with how I was included in the projects, and the required communications. From planning and organizing for upcoming conferences, researching about various grants, and even doing policy research, I was involved in a range of projects at various stage of their implementation. From the perspective of a student looking to learning new skills, this was an extremely fulfilling experience for me.

I must mention that the office environment, while maintaining professionalism, is so warm and friendly. Everyone is very approachable, and they are more than happy to answer all questions you may have. I am truly grateful that I got a chance to see what a healthy working environment looks like, and I will use this as a reference point for my next professional venture!
