Mercy Law Resource Centre is delighted to welcome Aoife to our team of solicitors. Aoife will be working with Mercy Law as a volunteer solicitor. Aoife’s work will predominantly focus on working with families in long-term homelessness and to explore legal remedies available to them to address their most difficult housing situations.
Aoife is a dual qualified solicitor and barrister having been called to the Bar in 2009 and been entered on the Roll of Solicitors in 2016. Aoife is currently practicing as a solicitor and is engaged as a Consultant and Head of Immigration with Philip Lee. Aoife is an experienced litigator who specialises in judicial review and public administration law.
During her time at the Bar, Aoife acted primarily on behalf of individuals challenging public body decisions in the areas of asylum and immigration, social welfare and housing law and international adoption and family law. She also worked with a variety of NGO’s on human rights matters including Women’s Aid, Marriage Equality, One Family, and with Mercy Law. Since joining Philip Lee in 2015, Aoife has advised a range of public bodies and corporate clients on a variety of matters regarding statutory and administrative decision making powers, EU and constitutional law, fair procedures and general public law matters. Aoife has particular knowledge of the law on freedom of information and access to environmental information.
Between her practice at the Bar, and subsequent practice as a solicitor in private practice, Aoife holds ten years’ experience in the legal industry advising both public and private clients. Aoife has also worked with the International Organisation for Migration, the European Database of Asylum Law and Public Affairs Ireland. She also served as Director for the Irish Refugee Council.
Aoife’s extensive human rights and public law experience will hugely enhance the impact of the work of MLRC and we feel most fortunate that she will be working with us in a voluntary basis. We are extremely grateful to Aoife for kindly contributing her time to the work of MLRC at this time when our service is in huge demand. We are confident that Aoife’s past experience and expertise will greatly strengthen our work providing free legal advice and representation to vulnerable families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
